K.J. was enjoying a night with friends when he was accosted by three (3) men in a dark parking lot. K.J. defended himself by shooting one of the assailants, who later died. K.J. called the police and reported the shooting. After two interrogations without an attorney, the detective made the decision to charge K.J. with murder. K.J. hired Temani Adams immediately. The first thing Temani did was have K.J.’s bond reduced so that he could be with his family and work while the case was pending. The case was dragged on for years. After obtaining favorable evidence that proved that the state’s witnesses were lying, Temani began preparing for trial. Months before trial, the prosecutor finally conveyed a plea offer. The plea offer included reducing the murder charge to manslaughter, with no jail time, along with the dismissal of other unrelated charges. K.J. accepted the plea offer.
